DESCRIPTION
The Quick Envelope Printer program provides the ability to
quickly (without alot of bizarre keystrokes) address
envelopes, store the addresses, and provide a small
editor (to write short 1 page letters) with the ability
to merge the address information (that is saved) into the
letters.
FEATURES
' When you want to print an envelope the database is
updated automatically (no duplicates are saved).
' Function keys give the user the ability to modify the
database, change the printer that is being used, and
don't forget HELP.
' Numerous supported printers including a Standard Print-
er Type for generic printers.
' Simple to use mini-editor which gives the ability to
merge the information stored in the database into your
letters.

example the phone number 1 (714) 597-7295 would be typed as
17145977295, QENV does the formatting.
Page 2
INSTALLATION
QENV stores the database information in a file called
ENV.DAT (included on the diskette). When QENV is started
the current directory will be searched for ENV.DAT if
ENV.DAT is not found in the current directory, QENV will
search the path specified in your AUTOEXEC.BAT file. The
same is true for the printer setup file PRNT.SET and the
correspondence file ENVLTR.DAT.
To create a QENV directory and copy QENV into that directory
follow these steps,
1. Place the enclosed diskette in drive A:
2. c:>MD QENV [ENTER]
3. c:>CD QENV [ENTER]
4. c:>COPY A:*.* [ENTER]
If you just want one copy of the database file to be
accessed on your hard drive, I suggest that you copy
the file ENV.DAT into a directory specified in your path
and delete it from where you copied the diskette (in this
case the directory QENV).
Hints: I have the program QENV copied into my directory
\UTIL which is specified as part of my path in my AU-
TOEXEC.BAT file, I also have the file ENV.DAT and
PRNT.SET copied into \UTIL. This way I can run QENV from
any directory on my machine and access the information I
have stored in the one ENV.DAT, PRNT.SET file.
Page 3
QUICK START
If you copied the QENV diskette into a directory specified
in your path you can start QENV by simply typing the
following,
c:>QENV [ENTER]
If you created a new directory (not specified in your path)
change into that directory by typing the following,
c:>CD \MYDIR [ENTER]
c:>QENV [ENTER]
Page 4
ENVELOPE PRINTING
When QENV is started (see the QUICK START section) the
following window is displayed,
/-----------------------------------------------------\
PRINT ENVELOPE

Name: XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
Street (1): XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
Street (2): XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
City: XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
State: XX Zip Code: XXXXXXXXXX

Attention: XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
Return Addr: XX
Phone #: XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

Comments 1: XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
Comments 2: XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

| |[ESC]=Exit|[F1]=Help| |
| |Printer Setup = Standard Printer| |
\-----------------------------------------------------/
The fields "Name", "Street (1)", "Street (2)", "City",
"State", and "Zip Code", should be filled in with the ad-
dressee information, the field "Attention" is used to direct
attention to a certain individual at the specified address
(NOTE: the word "ATTENTION:" does not print
automatically). The "Return Addr" prompt should be answered
with a "Y" or [ENTER] for YES, meaning you want to specify
a return address to be printed on the envelope, or "N" or
"-" for NO.
Page 5
ENVELOPE PRINTING (cont'd)
If YES is answered to the Return Address prompt the follow-
ing window is displayed,
/---------------------------------------------------\
RETURN ADDRESS

Name: XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
Street (1): XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
Street (2): XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
City: XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
State: XX Zip Code: XXXXXXXXXX
Attn: XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
\---------------------------------------------------/
New information is saved to the database file ENV.DAT.
NOTE: QENV searches in your path for the file ENV.DAT if
the file does not exist in your path QENV assumes the file
should be written to the current directory.
Next, the following window is displayed,
/--------------------------\
Insert Envelope

Press [ENTER] To Print
Press [-] To Cancel
\--------------------------/
NOTE: At this point pressing [-] to Cancel only cancels
the actual printing of the envelope, the database is
still updated. I used this feature to add my addresses
without printing any envelopes.
After the envelope is printed the new name and address are
added to the database automatically. If the new name and
address already exist in the file no addition is performed.

Page 10
CORRESPONDENCE
The correspondence section provides letter writing capabili-
ties. I use this section if I want to write a letter to any
of the names/addresses I have in the envelope database. The
letters created in this section are stored in a letter
database file called ENVLTR.DAT. Like the envelope database
file ENV.DAT, the path specified in your AUTOEXEC.BAT file
is searched for the existance of the letter database file if
it is not found in your path or the current directory the
file is created in the current directory.
To access the correspondence section press [F7]. The fol-
lowing menu will display,

letters had existed the names of those letters would appear
in the EXISTING LETTERS window. NOTE: The name entered must
be a NEW name, an error message will display if you enter a
name that already exists in the Letter Database file.

This is mainly here for the mailmerge capabilities, if you
are using the variables (explained in the Using Mailmerge
section) they will be filled in with the name/address chosen
here.
Page 15
USING MAILMERGE
The mailmerge feature is controlled by the placement of
variables into a letter you create with the mini-editor. A
variable is a value holder. A value is placed in a variable
when a letter is printed, the value placed in the variable
is determined by the variable name.
All variables start and end with the character ^ (I call it
a top-hat).
The variable definitions are as follows (pressing [F2] at
the mini-editor will display the variable definition
list),
^DATE^ ---- Today's date
^MY_NAME^ ---- Return address name
^MY_STREET1^ ---- Return street 1 address
^MY_STREET2^ ---- Return street 2 address
^MY_CITY^ ---- Return city
^MY_STATE^ ---- Return state
^MY_ZIP^ ---- Return zip code
^MY_ATTN^ ---- Return attention
^TO_PHONE^ ---- Phone # of Addressee
^TO_NAME^ ---- Name of Addressee
^TO_STREET1^ ---- Street 1 of addressee
^TO_STREET2^ ---- Street 2 of addressee
^TO_CITY^ ---- City of addressee
^TO_STATE^ ---- State of addressee

[F6] Is used to permanently elimate any deleted records
from the database. When a record is deleted it is just
flagged as such (to allow a future UNDELETE option) this
option was added for those of us who don't want to use the
extra disk space required to have the deleted records
hanging around.
[F7] Accesses the correspondence section of QENV this option
provides a small editor with mailmerge capabilities to allow
writing of letters to Names/Addresses stored in the data-
base. NOTE: The correcspondence section creates its own
